Nearly half of RVers are between the ages of 35 and 54 (University of Michigan study). Many are working long hours and are seeking stress relief on the weekends. Whether near or far, weekend trips in an RV are getaways from the daily routine. The growing trend is not just for families anymore, but for anybody looking to find escapes and opportunities to recharge by visiting a familiar campground, friends or a new destination each weekend.

Working Solos
These entrepreneurs and salesmen love the road warrior lifestyle. Their offices are on the road. More and more younger generations are considering RVs as their mobile office for visiting clients, selling products and visiting multiple company locations. Many feel it beats hotels, as desk space and Internet access are common features in RVs today. On the weekends they can land at home or on a family or friend's doorstep for a little R&R without dirtying the guest room sheets.

Family Vacationers
Towable RVs are common for family vacations. You can stop wherever and whenever you need to accommodate young kids and their needs to get out and burn off some energy. Mom or dad can run into the store while the kids are playing. It's easier on the kids because there is no settling into a hotel and they have a greater sense of home and familiarity with the family RV. Over time, an RV is well worth the investment instead of hotel rooms, airline tickets and rental cars. Everything is right there. Some tips for traveling with kids are:

  • Assign the kids different chores to help with RV packing and care.
  • Let the kids be part of the planning process.
  • Make rules such as rotating seats on the way to a campsite

Event and Game Fans
If you have been to a special event or sports game lately, you have seen lots of RVs in the parking lot. Many look at special events as opportunities to unwind and tailgate with friends. Many events draw so many people that hanging out in an RV, cooking a burger with a chilled drink, or simply taking a comfortable nap, is much more attractive than sitting in an overheating car waiting in line for hours. Many fans will travel miles to not miss a game. What better way to comfortably travel!

Couples and Retirees
Couples and retirees often reach a point where travel has been a life-long dream and now they have the time to do it. Careful consideration is often given to destinations and seasons for travel with these lovebirds. Often, traveling in an RV creates the opportunity for a second honeymoon where a healthy relationship can flourish. Whether one is a successful investor or a savvy pension recipient, these travelers are looking for a new lifestyle that takes them beyond the 40-hour work week they once lived.

Luxury Seekers
Luxury seekers often picture themselves sipping wine along with a freshly prepared dinner under the moonlight at the beach or at a nice resort campground. They have spent their lives working hard and have the freedom to travel in luxury. Their demanding styles require they have freedom to choose their own special locations while sleeping in their own beds.

Special Interest Seekers
Naturalists and hobbyists want to be where the real deal is. Whether looking for birds at sunrise or artifacts in a museum, these special interest seekers need to see their targeted interests in their original, intended surroundings. They go to where the action is and sometimes need to bring their equipment and tools with them. Collectors, environmental preservationists, hunters, golfers, photographers, writers, and painters are among the many in this category.

Extreme Actives
These rock climbers, hikers, campers and surfers are extreme adventure seekers that need to catch the perfect wave, mountain or trail to satisfy their crave for thrills. Often tucked away in hard-to-reach places, these destinations are challenging to find and get to. A lighter travel trailer with a four wheel drive truck is the perfect solution to get there and stay there to master their sport.

Motor Sportsters
No matter what time of year, these outdoor motor heads must bring their big toys with them. Motorcycles, jet skis, dune buggies, and ATVs need a special storage place to make the trip worth its weight. Sport Utility Trailers (SUTs) are towable RVs with a ramp and special cargo space for these toys. With complete living, sleeping and kitchen areas remaining intact, these outdoor junkies have a place to land and store their toys when they need to shower and rest.

Pet Owners
It is estimated that 50% of RVers travel with their pets. Only by vehicle is it truly easy and affordable to bring these furry friends along. Being part of the family, these critters will find a special place to sleep and be a part of the action, while avoiding the kennel. Some extra tips for traveling with pets:

  • Make sure the campground of choice accepts pets.
  • While many campgrounds have a fenced in area for pets to run, bring along the necessary cleanup supplies and a leash - they are required.
  • Feed your pets at night so they don't get car sick if traveling during the day.
  • Give them plenty of water during the day.
  • Do not leave them unattended in your RV, especially during hot days.
  • Get them acquainted with the RV before you leave. Bring along their favorite toys and bedding.
  • Put litter boxes in the shower or tub.
