These questions are frequently asked by our consumers. Please visit the CrossRoads Forum or email us if you have a question that is not covered here.

Should I cover my RV with a tarpaulin or canvas when it is not in use?

It is not recommended that your RV be wrapped with any type of cover. The rubber roof material needs to breathe and be allowed to dry thoroughly to prevent mold and mildew. According to the roof material supplier, the chalky look of the rubber is normal. Parking under an overhang or in a large garage is acceptable.

How do I attach towel bars and toilet paper holders?

CrossRoads does not provide towel bars, toilet paper holders or counter extensions due to differing customer applications and respective warranty limitations around the use of such items. However, installing these items yourself or through your dealer is very easy. Your unit has 16"OC studs. You may attach items to the studs just as you would a wall in your home. If you need to attach items to the Luan board without a stud, use a wall anchor toggle to secure items to the Luan board. Follow the instructions from the toggle wall anchor supplier.

Why isn’t the aluminum framing in the walls welded?

We choose to “screw and clip” our roof, floor and wall framing instead of welding for several different reasons. At every joint there are four screws holding a gusseted bracket forming a very strong right angle. This supports the stud by adding the extra bracket and four contact points almost 1-½ inches up the stud. Additionally, behind every bracket is a liberal amount of “sikaflex” adhesive, preventing any slippage in the bracket. In contrast, welding only creates two points of contact, at the very bottom of the stud, and instead of adding metal for bracing actually weakens the metal while forming the weld. Welding also by its nature is an extremely hard and brittle union while screwing and clipping allows the sidewall to flex, similar to airplane or skyscraper construction.

What is your warranty?

On all CrossRoads products we currently offer a two year warranty covering structural, mechanical and workmanship defects, and all appliances and any components not related to normal wear and tear or abuse. Our aluminum framed products also include a limited 5 year structural guarantee against floor, walls and roof defects from the date of delivery. Many of the components carry their own supplier warranty extending far beyond the two-year warranty. To learn more about our warranties for our product lines please click here.

Why do you use marine grade plywood instead of “OSB” or “structurewood”?

“OSB” and “structurewood” are made of large chips of wood recaptured and covered in a formaldehyde-based epoxy. Many people are allergic to formaldehyde and although this product is available in 30-foot long sheets do not hold up well when exposed to moisture. Once a hole is made in the sheet to accommodate water, sewer or electrical lines, there is an opportunity for water to penetrate the board. When wet, these products will swell and crumble. Our competitors also brag about a 25-year warranty on this product. What they don’t mention is the warranty covers replacement of material, not the labor or shipping to replace it. Plywood, when wet, will retain its strength and shape because it is made of layers of large sheets of wood. All floors are tongue and groove plywood, essentially eliminating weak areas at the seams.

How much does this camper weigh?

The actual towed weight of your camper is calculated as the UVW (unloaded vehicle weight) or weight plus options, plus anticipated cargo. The UVW can be found on a sticker inside the overhead kitchen cabinets. Almost everything is standard on a CrossRoads product, so you will only need to add 200–300 pounds for options. Some competitors make everything optional in order to advertise a lower UVW. Make sure you factor in options when comparing weights.

Can passengers ride in the trailer?

Some states do allow passengers to ride in fifth wheel trailers when safety glass and a two-way intercom are installed. Check with the state department of transportation to make sure you are obeying the law.

Can I tow a trailer behind my CrossRoads unit?

Many people do tow small trailers behind their unit. Any modification to the frame or bumper however, without prior approval from the frame manufacturer, will void the frame warranty.

Can I walk on the roof of my camper?

Yes, all of our roofs are framed with 4 ½" trussed roof rafters 16” on center, and are decked with plywood. We don’t recommend hosting a block party up there, but for maintenance and cleaning it is acceptable.

Is this a year-round camper?

It is very hard to make a camper weatherproof in extreme conditions. Our tanks are all enclosed in a sealed underbelly, which receives ambient heat from the heat duct. Most water lines are above the floor and we offer upgraded insulation in all our products. We market these as deep three season campers and in most areas, using caution; the camper will not freeze up. In almost all cases we meet or exceed the cold weather preparedness of our direct competitors.

Can I buy direct from the factory?

We do not sell factory direct because we feel having a relationship with a local dealer is important. We do offer factory tours during the week and would love to have you visit. Please contact the sales department for a schedule of tours.
